One of Jersey City’s best parks, Hamilton Park is a square park surrounded by brownstones dating back to the 1800s. This neighborhood park boasts a basketball court, tennis court, a playground and of course, a dog park.

Van Vorst Park Dog Run
Landscaped by a local florist and horticulturist Peter Henderson in 1851, Van Vorst Park is the prettiest park in downtown Jersey City. This rectangular park is lined with historic brownstone rowhouses and features a gazebo, walking paths, viewing fountain and children’s playground.
Of course, there’s also a small dog park for your furry friend to enjoy too. It has separate areas for large and small dogs, although reviewers complain the park floods when it rains.

Lincoln Park Dog Run
Right on the edge of Jersey City near the Hackensack River, Lincoln Park Dog Run is a large gravel dog park with a water fountain and doggie pool so your pup can cool off. It features plenty of benches and trees for shade, plus a separate area for little dogs.

Berry Lane Park Dog Run
Located in the Communipaw area not far from Liberty State Park, Berry Lane Park boasts football/soccer fields, picnic tables, basketball courts, tennis courts, a skate park and a children’s play area. It also offers a small gravel dog run where dogs can run around.

108 First Street Dog Park
Of all the dog parks in Jersey City, 108 First Street Dog Park is one of our favorites. This is a popular dog park with artificial turf and a water spout to keep your dog hydrated.
Dogs and owners are usually very friendly and the park is kept nice and clean. There are separate areas for small and large dogs, so if you have a small pup you don’t have to worry about the bigger dogs being too rough.

Newport Dog Park
Situated in Newport next to the Duane Reade, this dog run has separate areas for small and large dogs. The park is lined with faux grass, which is comfortable on your dog’s feet. Water is available, though you’ll need to bring your own bowl.

Marin Green Dog Run
This spacious dog run is located adjacent to 485 Marin and east of Hamilton Park. It features a large patch of Astroturf that’s well drained and clean, which is good for when it rains. There’s not much shade and there’s no water fountain though, so make sure you bring a bottle of water for your dog in summer.
Reviewers complain that the gaps in the fence are wide enough to let a tennis ball through, so you may get a workout running after your dog’s ball if it flies through. Marin Green is a fairly modern urban park that also features a children’s playground, grassy lawn areas and tables with seating so you can picnic outside in the summer months.

Ogden’s End Dog Park
Ogden’s End Dog Park sits near the border of Jersey City and Hoboken and features a lovely patch of Astroturf where your dog can play. Dogs of all sizes play together in one space and it has a couple of benches so owners can sit down and relax. There’s also a water fountain for the summer months and several trees providing shade when the weather gets warm.

Lighthouse Dog Run
Located at Newport Tower Suites right on the water close to Lefrak Point Lighthouse, this gravel dog run is large and spacious, with panoramic views across to Manhattan. While your pup plays with his/her doggie friends, take a seat on one of the benches and soak in the scenery.

Leonard Dog Park
For Jersey City residents who live in the Heights, Leonard Dog Park is the best (and only) dog run in the area. This gravel dog run is situated inside Leonard Park, which is a hilly urban park that features a gazebo, a kid’s play area and various animal sculptures. If you have kids, the park’s hilly terrain is also great for sledding in winter.
